Colorado Senate approves bill to ban certain semiautomatic firearms, with training exceptions.
The Colorado Senate has approved a bill that aims to ban the sale, purchase, and manufacture of certain semiautomatic firearms, including AR-15 and AK-47 rifles.
A major amendment now allows individuals to buy these guns if they complete a state-approved training course.
The course, ranging from four to 12 hours, covers gun safety, laws, and crisis intervention, and buyers must pass a test and retake the course every five years.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Tom Sullivan, aims to enforce the state's existing ban on high-capacity magazines and now heads to a final Senate vote.
