Philippines sees surge in waterborne illnesses, dengue, and leptospirosis post-heavy rains.
The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) has reported a surge in "W.I.L.D" diseases—water and foodborne illnesses, influenza-like illnesses, leptospirosis, and dengue—following recent heavy rains and flooding.
Though influenza-like cases dropped by 50% as of February 1, they have since doubled, with a 40% increase in dengue cases and an 8% rise in leptospirosis.
The DOH urges the public to practice proper hygiene and seek medical attention early if symptoms arise.
