India ends duty-free import policy for yellow peas, considering potential new duties.

The Indian government will not extend its duty-free import policy for yellow peas beyond February 28, as announced by Minister Pralhad Joshi. A decision on potential import duties will be made by a committee led by Minister Amit Shah. This policy, initially set in December 2023, has been extended three times. With the import of yellow peas reaching 30 lakh tonnes in 2024, industry experts anticipate a possible 15-20% import duty, which could reduce overall pulses imports in the upcoming fiscal year.
