U.S. Coast Guard releases audio believed to capture Titanic submersible's fatal implosion in 2023.
The U.S. Coast Guard has released a 20-second audio recording believed to capture the moment the Titan submersible imploded in the Atlantic Ocean in June 2023, killing all five passengers, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. Recorded about 900 miles away, the audio includes a muffled boom sound, identified as the "suspected acoustic signature" of the implosion. The recording also suggests the implosion occurred at 9:34 a.m. EDT, about 90 minutes after the submersible began its descent to explore the Titanic wreckage.
