SIU investigates Eskom employees for siphoning over R1 billion through procurement fraud.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) reported that over 5,000 Eskom employees failed to comply with the company's declaration of interest policy from 2003 to 2022. Disciplinary actions were initiated against 3,875 employees, with 194 referrals to Eskom and 14 to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), leading to three arrests. The SIU also uncovered a scheme where Eskom employees manipulated procurement processes to siphon over R1 billion, involving 334 employees with financial ties to vendors. Efforts are underway to recover R3.8 billion in losses through civil proceedings against former employees and private individuals.
