Researchers achieve real-time tornado prediction linked to typhoons, cutting forecast time to 80 minutes.
Fujitsu and Yokohama National University have achieved the world's first real-time prediction of tornadoes linked to typhoons using the Fugaku supercomputer. This technology, using an advanced simulator, reduces prediction time from over 11 hours to 80 minutes, offering a four-hour advance warning. The enhanced system will be shared with researchers to improve severe weather forecasting and disaster preparedness by fiscal year 2024.
