Pope Francis has appointed Tucson Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger as the new Archbishop of Detroit, succeeding Archbishop Allen Vigneron who resigned upon turning 75. Weisenburger, known for advocating for immigrants and environmental issues, will lead the Detroit Archdiocese, home to over 900,000 Catholics. His installation is scheduled for March 18, 2025. Weisenburger has served as Tucson's bishop since 2017 and previously led the Diocese of Salina, Kansas. He will replace Vigneron, who has led the archdiocese since 2009.
