India's Supreme Court orders Election Commission to not erase or reload data in EVMs during verification.
The Supreme Court of India has instructed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to refrain from erasing or reloading data in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during verification.
This directive responds to a petition by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) seeking verification of burnt memory and symbol loading units.
The court also suggested lowering the verification fee of Rs 40,000 and asked the ECI to file a short affidavit explaining its standard procedure for EVM verification.
The matter is set for further hearing in early March.
