Cryptocurrency market capitalizations rose 6% in January despite trading volume dropping 24%.
Despite a 24% drop in trading volumes, the cryptocurrency market saw a 6% increase in Layer-1 blockchain market capitalizations in January 2025, totaling about $3.4 trillion. Bitcoin led the gains with a 10% rise, followed by Solana, which surged 25%. Ethereum, however, saw a 1% decline in market cap. J.P. Morgan noted that growth was mainly in large-cap cryptos, while smaller tokens faced losses. Regulatory advancements included a new crypto taskforce and the repeal of SAB 121.
