Automakers' AEB systems get upgrades, improving crash prevention at higher speeds, per IIHS tests.
Automakers have significantly improved their automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems following a stricter test by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In the latest evaluations, 22 out of 30 vehicles received good or acceptable ratings for their ability to prevent or mitigate crashes at higher speeds. The new test includes scenarios at 31, 37, and 43 mph with targets like motorcycles and semitrailers, reflecting real-world crash conditions. These advancements are expected to save lives by reducing serious front-to-rear crashes.
