Prisoner Nelson Barrera allegedly attempted to stab a guard, now facing new felony charges.

Nelson Barrera, a prisoner serving life for second-degree murder at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Center, is suspected of attempting to stab a prison guard with an improvised weapon. The guard, wearing a protective vest, was stabbed twice but was medically cleared and is resting at home. Barrera resisted arrest, injuring himself, before surrendering. He was transferred to another prison and will face felony charges.
