Marine rescues in NSW hit a five-year low in January, thanks to better boater preparation.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers had a quieter January 2025, marking the lowest rescue numbers in five years, due to better preparation by boat operators. The Hunter and Central Coast regions assisted nearly 500 people, while the Mid North Coast, busy with tourists, conducted 61 missions. Commissioner Alex Barrell praised boaters for taking safety precautions, such as logging on with Marine Rescue NSW, which reduced the need for rescues.
