The Mohawks of Bay of Quinte (MBQ) deny claims that Chief R. Donald Maracle benefited from a 20-acre land purchase funded by the band office. The MBQ council bought the land using interest from the Culbertson claim compensation to support land reclamation efforts. The MBQ now holds the property, aiming to resolve the Culbertson Tract claim, which includes over 600 acres of land still to be confirmed as reserve.
