Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, Nigeria, aims to eradicate polio and reduce maternal mortality by June 2025. Despite a reported surge in polio cases from 6 in 2022 to 29 in 2024, the state plans to vaccinate over 250,000 unvaccinated children. The government also launched the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative to decrease maternal deaths.
