Shanghai woman sentenced to over 12 years for swindling relatives in fake real estate scheme.
A 40-year-old Shanghai woman, Meng, was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for swindling her relatives out of millions in a fraudulent real estate scheme. Meng staged a fake marriage with a stranger, Jiang, portraying him as a wealthy real estate developer. She convinced at least five relatives to invest in non-existent discounted properties. When one relative uncovered the truth, Meng was arrested and convicted. Jiang received a six-year sentence, and Meng's cousin, who assisted in the fraud, was sentenced to five years.
