New study reveals women with HIV in British Columbia have a shorter life expectancy than men.

A new study in the Lancet Public Health shows that while antiretroviral treatment has increased life expectancy for people with HIV in British Columbia, women still have a shorter life expectancy than men. The research, by the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, found that life expectancy for 20-year-old men with HIV increased to 68 years, while for women, it rose to only 61 years. Women with HIV also faced a 33% higher risk of death from non-communicable diseases. Researchers emphasize the need to address factors like unemployment and unstable housing that negatively impact women's health.
