Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota is rebuilding its runway for the arrival of the new B-21 bombers, with construction set to finish by November. The $129.5 million project includes replacing over 100,000 tons of concrete and 100,000 square yards of asphalt. The runway needed updates every 50 years, and the base will eventually host 17 B-21 bombers and 800 airmen. The upgrades are part of a larger $1 billion plan to accommodate the new stealth bombers and increase the base population by about 4,000 people, including families and personnel.
