SoftBank is set to acquire chipmaker Ampere Computing for about $6.5 billion, expanding its semiconductor presence.

SoftBank Group is reportedly close to acquiring chip designer Ampere Computing for around $6.5 billion, including debt. Ampere, backed by Oracle and specializing in data center chips, would be an addition to SoftBank's tech portfolio, particularly enhancing its stake in the chip market through its majority ownership of Arm Holdings. An official announcement may come in the next few weeks.
