Mike Ratledge, keyboardist and founding member of the progressive rock band Soft Machine, died at age 81. Ratledge, born in Kent in 1943, was a key figure in the band from 1966 to 1976, contributing to nine of their albums and touring with Jimi Hendrix and Andy Summers. After leaving Soft Machine, he composed for film, TV, and theater. His former bandmate John Etheridge confirmed his passing.
