Kentucky introduces bills to criminalize sextortion and educate schools on the 300% rise in cases.

Kentucky lawmakers have introduced bills in both chambers to address a 300% increase in online sexual extortion cases between 2021 and 2023. Senate Bill 73, sponsored by Senator Julie Raque Adams, would criminalize sextortion as a felony and mandate school education on the issue. The bill also proposes posting victim assistance information in schools. Advocates argue that current laws are insufficient, leaving children vulnerable to online predators.
