Rwandan rebels seized Congolese prison, killing over 140 women inmates and prompting UN concern.

Hundreds of women inmates were raped and killed when the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels seized Goma, Congo, causing a mass jailbreak. The female wing of Munzenze prison was set on fire, resulting in at least 141 deaths. The UN is calling for a response to the sexual violence and other human rights abuses. A ceasefire was declared by the M23, but the UN remains concerned about ongoing violence.
