India approves auction of 5G spectrum, offering it at a discount compared to previous auctions.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has approved the auction of 3,000 MHz of 5G spectrum in the 37-40 GHz band for Rs 17,940 crore, about 14% cheaper than the 26 GHz band auctioned in 2022.
The auction will be open to telecom operators, internet service providers, and machine-to-machine service providers.
The spectrum will be sold in blocks of 100 MHz, valid for 20 years, with a cap of 40% of the total spectrum.
TRAI rejected a request for a payment gap, maintaining existing upfront and installment payment terms.
