Florida utility customers face monthly bill hikes of $20 to $32 to cover 2024 hurricane costs.

Florida utility customers with Duke Energy or Tampa Electric will see their bills increase by around $20 to $32 monthly to cover hurricane-related costs from 2024. The Florida Public Service Commission approved the rate hikes, totaling over $1.55 billion, to be spread over 18 months for Tampa Electric and 12 months for Duke Energy, to ease the financial burden on residents. The decision raises questions about the fairness of cost distribution between utilities and customers.
