Shawn Boyle, a 20-plus year veteran of the Yakima Police Department, has been appointed as the city's new police chief, succeeding Matt Murray. Boyle, who has served as interim chief since last summer, will be officially sworn in at the city council meeting on February 4. His career includes roles as a corrections officer, SWAT team leader, and various leadership positions within the department. The YPD has an annual budget of about $36 million and over 170 employees.
