Remains found in Mississippi may belong to missing university student Jimmie "Jay" Lee, whose case led to a mistrial.

Human remains found in Carroll County, Mississippi, are believed to be those of missing University of Mississippi student Jimmie "Jay" Lee, after a gold necklace bearing his name was discovered nearby. Lee, a member of Oxford's LGBTQ+ community, vanished in July 2022. Fellow student Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. was accused of killing Lee to hide their secret relationship. Herrington's capital murder trial ended in a mistrial in December due to a hung jury. Authorities are working to confirm the identity of the remains.
