Hapag-Lloyd secures $4B for 24 new, eco-friendly ships, aiming to boost fleet sustainability.
Hapag-Lloyd, a major container shipping company, has secured $4 billion in financing for 24 new ships, set to be delivered between 2027 and 2029.
The ships, with a total capacity of 312,000 TEU, will be equipped with fuel-efficient engines using biomethane to significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
Financing includes $900 million from the company, $500 million in loans, $1.8 billion in leasing, and $1.1 billion from a syndicated credit facility.
The project aligns with Hapag-Lloyd's goal to make its fleet climate-neutral by 2045.
