Thousands of worshippers in white robes gathered at Rio de Janeiro's Arpoador beach on February 2 to honor Yemanja, the Afro-Brazilian sea goddess. They waded into the sea, offering bouquets to Yemanja, seeking protection and prosperity. Despite facing discrimination, the celebration was filled with joy and a sense of connection with nature. Brazil's Minister for Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, attended the event, which continued into the night.
