Sri Lanka plans to create five elephant corridors in its north-central province to reduce human-elephant conflicts, a pressing issue causing significant casualties. In 2024, 388 elephants and 155 people died due to these conflicts. The province has seen the highest number of incidents. Additional measures include protecting habitats, cultivating grasslands, and rehabilitating water tanks to preserve both species.
