Edmonton councillors support increased police presence on the city's transit system due to complaints about violence and drug use. However, they can't mandate this, as the decision is up to the police leadership. Currently, 26 constables, about one percent of the total force, are dedicated to transit policing. Despite council suggestions, the police service decides on deployments and resource allocation.
