Former sheriff's sergeant sentenced to probation for using pepper spray on restrained inmate.

Former Hillsdale County Sheriff's Sergeant Ronald Leggitt has been sentenced to two years' probation, with seven days in jail, for assaulting an inmate with pepper spray in December 2021. Leggitt, who pleaded guilty to misconduct in office and aggravated assault, can no longer work as a law enforcement officer in Michigan. The assault occurred while the inmate was restrained in a chair.
