India lays keel for seventh anti-submarine warfare ship, boosting local defense manufacturing.

Rear Admiral Upal Kundu laid the keel for the seventh Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) ship at Cochin Shipyard on January 29, 2025. The Mahe-class ships are designed for anti-submarine operations, low-intensity maritime operations, and mine-laying tasks. These ships will replace the Abhay-class ASW Corvettes, with the first Mahe-class ship set to be delivered in early 2025. They feature indigenously developed sonars and a high degree of local manufacturing, supporting India's "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
