U.S. plans 25% tariffs on Canadian, Mexican goods starting Feb 1 due to immigration concerns.

The U.S. is still planning to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods on February 1st, according to President Trump's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt. The tariffs were initially proposed in response to what Trump sees as the two countries' failure to control the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs. Leavitt also addressed Trump's recent pause on federal grants and loans and increased actions by ICE for mass deportations. In response, Canada is preparing a relief package for affected businesses and considering retaliatory tariffs.
