India's major ports saw a 3.22% rise in cargo handling in December, despite coal volume drops.

India's 12 major government-owned ports handled 72.2 million tonnes of cargo in December, a 3.22% increase from the same month last year. Deendayal Port in Gujarat led with 13.03 million tonnes. The top five ports managed 63.94% of the total cargo, with 77.31% for overseas shipments and 22.69% for coastal. Despite a global container shortage, container volumes rose 17%. Coal volumes dropped due to higher domestic production.
