Indian court considers case allowing Muslim woman to opt out of Sharia law for inheritance.

The Supreme Court of India is considering a case where a non-believing Muslim woman from Kerala, Safiya PM, is petitioning to be governed by the secular Indian Succession Act instead of Sharia law for inheritance. Safiya argues that Sharia law is discriminatory and violates her fundamental rights. The court has asked the government to respond within four weeks, and the case will be heard in May.
