Three New Zealand companies were fined for unsafe work practices near powerlines, leading to worker injuries and fatalities. Coogan Contracting was fined $25,000 after a worker was electrocuted in February 2023. Another worker was seriously injured in May 2023 when scaffolding he was on came too close to power lines. Joan Carpenters Limited and Church Bay Services Limited were ordered to pay reparations of $42,818. WorkSafe emphasized the need for proper risk assessments and safety measures when working near high-voltage lines.
