Southampton restricts cars on Portswood Road during peak hours to boost air quality and public transport.

Southampton City Council has started a six-month trial restricting cars on Portswood Road during peak hours, from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm, Monday through Saturday. The ban aims to improve air quality and public transport times. Only buses, taxis, cyclists, e-scooters, e-bikes, and emergency vehicles are allowed. Those breaking the rules will first receive a warning, followed by a £70 fine, reducible to £35 if paid within 21 days. The council will monitor the trial's impact.
