Percival Everett's novel "James," a retelling of Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" from the perspective of Jim, has won the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction by the American Library Association, along with a $5,000 prize. The book has already received the National Book Award and the Kirkus Prize. The Carnegie Medal, established in 2012, honors exceptional literary contributions to public libraries.
