Indian opposition MPs criticize chairman for autocratic handling of Waqf Amendment Bill approvals.
Eleven opposition MPs in India's Joint Parliamentary Committee have criticized Chairman Jagdambika Pal, accusing him of acting autocratically and hastily approving amendments to the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 proposed by the ruling BJP-led coalition. The opposition claims there was a lack of transparency and proper discussion. Only 14 amendments out of over 450 proposed were approved, all by ruling party members. The bill, aiming to address property mismanagement, will now be reviewed by the Ministry of Law and Justice before the Lok Sabha speaker's final approval.
