In Winnipeg, an 84-year-old man and his dog died, while a 67-year-old survived critically injured, due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The victims were found unconscious in a car stuck in a snowbank with the exhaust pipe blocked by snow. Police believe this caused the buildup of the poisonous gas and advise clearing exhaust pipes and ensuring good ventilation when operating vehicles in snowy conditions.
