Chancellor Rachel Reeves plans to replace Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) with simpler Environmental Outcome Reports to speed up economic growth in the UK. The Treasury claims current EIAs are costly and often used for legal challenges rather than environmental protection. The government will also review the statutory consultee system and introduce the Planning and Infrastructure Bill in spring to remove barriers and speed up project approvals.
