Chinese courts report a significant reduction in case backlogs, with long-pending cases down over one-third.

In 2024, Chinese courts reported a significant reduction in case backlogs, with cases pending over a year dropping by over one-third. The Supreme People's Court (SPC) noted a slight increase of nearly 1% in total cases to over 46 million. This includes over 1.2 million criminal cases, more than 18 million civil and commercial cases, and nearly 300,000 administrative cases. Additionally, over 260,000 cases were processed using the "cross-enforcement" mechanism, enabling other or higher-level courts to assist in enforcement.
