Wearable tech can predict inflammatory bowel disease flare-ups up to seven weeks early, study finds.

A recent study from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai found that wearable devices like Fitbits or Apple Watches can predict inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) flare-ups up to seven weeks in advance. By monitoring changes in heart rate, heart rate variability, steps taken, and blood oxygen levels, these devices could provide early warnings, helping patients and doctors manage IBD more effectively. The study involved 309 participants across the U.S. and showed significant physiological changes leading up to flare-ups.
