Assemblyman Manny De Los Santos in New York State and Councilman Shaun Abreu in New York City have introduced bills to allow employees to use their existing paid sick leave for pet care. The proposed laws aim to help employees take time off to address their pets’ medical needs or for preventive care, including for service animals. Similar bills in both the state and city have not progressed significantly yet.
