Alabama Rep. Marilyn Lands introduces bill to improve maternal, infant health through expanded Medicaid.

Alabama State Rep. Marilyn Lands introduced House Bill 89, or the Alabama Maternal Healthcare Act, to reduce high maternal and infant mortality rates. The bill seeks to provide short-term Medicaid coverage to pregnant women, enabling better access to prenatal care. Currently, about 11% of pregnant women in Alabama do not receive prenatal care. The bill, which has received bipartisan support, could be enacted by the end of 2025.
