Wood treatment firm J.H. Baxter & Co. and owner Georgia Baxter-Krause agree to pay $1.5M for violating environmental laws.

Georgia Baxter-Krause and her Eugene-based wood treatment company, J.H. Baxter & Co., have agreed to pay $1.5 million in fines for violating hazardous waste and Clean Air Act regulations. The company illegally treated hazardous waste by evaporating wastewater without proper permits and discharged pollutants into the air. Baxter-Krause, 61, also pleaded guilty to false statements and faces up to two years in prison.
