Study shows pre-surgery exercise and diet can halve complications, shorten hospital stays.
A BMJ study shows that prehabilitation, including exercise and better diet before surgery, can significantly reduce post-surgery complications and hospital stays. Analyzing data from 186 trials with over 15,000 patients, the research found that exercise reduced complications by 50% and improved recovery. Combining exercise, diet, and psychological support lowered risks by 36%. The Ottawa Hospital is conducting multi-center trials to better implement prehab programs.
