OpenAI tells an Indian court it can't remove training data over a lawsuit, citing U.S. legal obligations.

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has informed an Indian court that removing training data to comply with a lawsuit filed by news agency ANI would violate its legal obligations in the U.S. ANI accuses OpenAI of using its content without permission. OpenAI maintains it makes fair use of publicly available data and is currently defending similar claims in the U.S., where it must preserve its training data. The case is set to be heard by the Delhi court on January 28.
