Ontario Power Generation gets $2.1B to refurbish Pickering Nuclear Station, boosting jobs and economy.
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has been awarded a $2.1 billion contract to refurbish four units at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, expected to be completed by 2026.
The project is part of a larger $4.1 billion plan to revitalize the site, which will generate 2,000 MW of electricity, enough to power two million homes.
The refurbishment is projected to create 11,000 jobs annually and contribute $19.4 billion to Ontario's GDP over 11 years.
OPG aims to support local economies by committing $100 million to Indigenous companies throughout the project.
