New Zealand sees record outflow of citizens, down to economic woes, slashing net migration.
In the year to November 2024, New Zealand saw record levels of people leaving, with 127,800 departures, a 28% increase. Over 50% of those leaving were New Zealand citizens due to economic struggles and fewer work opportunities. Net migration fell to 30,600, down from 135,700 the previous year. The government plans to encourage more immigration and tourism to boost the economy.
