Former A's pitcher and 1989 World Series MVP Dave Stewart joins Oakland as a special assistant.

The Oakland Athletics have hired former pitcher Dave Stewart, a World Series MVP, as a special assistant to player development. Stewart, who played eight seasons with the A's and won the 1989 World Series MVP, will work alongside Ed Sprague. With extensive experience in player development and front office roles, including a stint as Arizona's GM, Stewart returns to the team he once helped lead to a championship.
